Chef Lisa Hines, The Food Fashionista, is the Vivienne Westwood-meets-Alice Waters of local ingredients. When it comes to cooking with flair, Chef Hines, owner of Bella Cucina Catering and Bella Luxe Events in San Rafael, Calif., is an up-and-coming name in Bay Area food circles. Stints at San Francisco’s Restaurant Lulu, Ivy’s (now Absinthe) and Inn at the Opera guided Hines through the ins and outs of restaurant experience. Longing for some adventure, Hines embarked on a year long travel through Italy and then on to Egypt. Upon return, Hines worked as private chef for Charles Schwab and his family and then on to work with Mark Hoffman, founding CEO of Sybase, and his family.!N!N Using local ingredients to create vibrant global flavors, Chef Hines has developed a circle of local fans including IDEAS event producer Riccardo Benavides, Merl Saunders, Jr. of The Grammys and photographer Jim Erickson. Hines’ loyal clients have repeated their business over through the course of 12 years.

The Food Fashionista has catered for the crew/contestants of Bravo’s reality program, Top Chef, during its first season and had her work profiled in Inside Weddings and Marin Magazine. Chef Hines has been featured in numerous articles in magazine, print and television. According to TASTE TV, “Lisa’s contextual, travel-inspired style has won her guests over and over again.”

Mom to Milan, 5, and Luca, 4, Chef Hines is now on a mission to help Bay Area parents create stylish and healthy foods their kids will actually eat. Currently, Hines is working on a book called, “ The Food Fashionista’s Guide to Fabulous Family Parties,” which gives parents delicious and simple ways for stylish, family-friendly parties (that kids can be involved in, too!)

Out of her downtown San Rafael kitchen for 10 years, Chef Hines has run one of the first catering businesses in San Francisco and Marin counties to emphasize the use of local and organic ingredients. While the freshest ingredients are a must, the guiding rule in her kitchen is simple. Food is simple, therefore, have fun with it! Hines’ food is youthful, style-driven, and inspired by travel to hotspots from near and far.

Mission: Only the freshest ingredients will do, inauthentic service is banned, and the results are fetching.
